  1. MARION ZIMMER BRADLEY - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears as the cover of "STARMONT READER'S GUIDE No. 27".

    I never met Marion Zimmer Bradley, I never talked to her on the phone. I did the interior illustrations for her science fiction novel, "SURVEY SHIP," published by Ace Books in 1980. Shortly after the book was published she sent me a card on which she thanked me for "enhancing" the looks of her book, and closed with the words, "I love you".

    I have been very fortunate over the years to have received letters from authors, or postcards like the one from Ms Bradley, whose novel I illustrated. They were all very complimentary and really lifted my spirits. But I am especially honored by the people today, after so many years have passed by, who take the time and write to thank me for the years of pleasure I gave them with my artwork. How special is that! - I'm really, a very lucky guy.

    They remind me to keep my attention focused on the positive side of life;

    "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, what-
    ever is pure, whatever is beautiful, whatever has excellence and
    is worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things."
